Faculty members in the English Department include scholars as well as creative and professional writers working in a variety of literary and cultural fields. Our Literature professors are nationally recognized scholars and dedicated teachers whose expertise includes textual and multimedia writing from Great Britain, the United States, Ireland, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, India, China, the Middle East, and Africa, with authors from the European Middle Ages to the Anglophone here and now addressing major cultural, social, and political issues. Our Writing and Rhetoric faculty are also leaders in their field, both on the national stage and within CUNY and Lehman, lending their expertise to both writing programming at the College and the advancement of Writing Studies as a scholarly field. Our Creative Writing professors include award-winning novelists and poets of national and even international reputation, feature-writers and journalists, and professional writers in a range of fields, publishing essays and books or building multimedia sites and museum exhibits relating to the arts, business, health science, economics, and social justice.
English faculty offer courses in the English Department as well as in allied programs, including First Year Initiative, College Now, Continuing Education, ADP, English Education, LEH, Lehman Scholars and Macaulay Honors, the MA in Liberal Studies (MALS), and the doctoral program at the CUNY Graduate Center.
