CUNY Beyond to Propel Lehman College Students to Successful Careers

October 30, 2025

Already a perennial national leader in social mobility, Lehman College is proud to help pioneer a new initiative, CUNY Beyond, that will benefit every college student from matriculation through graduation by preparing them to launch successful careers. CUNY Beyond connects a student’s academic journey to job readiness milestones, ensuring they develop a portfolio of skills and experience that position them for post-graduate success.

“Lehman College’s commitment to empowering students to earn their degrees and launch fulfilling careers drives everything we do,” said Fernando Delgado, Lehman College president. “CUNY Beyond strengthens this commitment by transforming education into opportunity and preparing students to succeed in their careers.”

With the foundation work for CUNY Beyond being adeptly handled by Vice President for Student Affairs Jermaine Wright and Director of the Career Exploration and Development Center Bascillia Toussaint, Teresita Levy now leads the initiative in her role as Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and Executive Director for Industry Partnerships.

Levy will drive efforts to embed career development into every stage of the student experience, focusing on strengthening Lehman’s approach to job preparation and in-demand skills, while forging partnerships with employers, community organizations, and industry leaders across New York City and beyond.

College to Careers

Lehman College aligns student experiences with CUNY Beyond’s five pillars to bridge education and employment:

  • Career Exposure and Exploration
  • Integrated Academic and Career Advising
  • Career-Connected Learning
  • Paid Work-Based Learning
  • Employer Engagement

CUNY Beyond will connect existing departments and services at Lehman to ensure that all students have access to professional development resources and support. It will inform onboarding for first-year students; shape courses that draw direct connections to careers; create a framework for comprehensive academic guidance; and boost the success of Lehman’s Career Exploration and Development Center, which offers career readiness workshops and connections to paid internships and jobs.

The initiative reflects a broader shift toward aligning higher education with the evolving needs of today’s workforce.
