Associate Professor of Philosophy Michael Buckley is celebrating the release of his new book, Political Authority: The Paradox and Promise of Constructivism in Politics. The book offers a fresh approach to understanding political power in terms of its moral foundations, and addresses a fundamental question: How can political principles be created through human deliberation, yet still carry objective authority? Buckley argues that a constructivist approach to political analysis—one that is pragmatic, sensitive to context, and can accommodate differences—best serves a contemporary, pluralistic society.
