The Engaged Pedagogy Program

The Engaged Pedagogy Program is a semester-long teaching and learning experience that partners students and faculty to revise or create student-centered pedagogical artifacts and learning experiences that are not limited to academic courses, syllabi, course modules, practicums, and project-based learning opportunities at Lehman College.

Applications for the next cycle of engaged partnerships will open in November 2026.

Three selected students in good academic standing from a variety of academic programs will explore their identities as learners and student-educators and engage in tasks and partnerships that can directly enrich the teaching and learning resources and experiences of their peers, professionals, and educators who collaborate with the CTL through the Program.

Three selected students in good academic standing and two educators (instructors, adjuncts, faculty, and relevant professional staff) will partner for 13 weeks to explore their identities as pedagogues and revise existing teaching and learning materials through strategic partnerships with students that can directly enrich one's teaching repertoire and generate engaging, student-centered learning experiences at Lehman College.

About Pedagogical Partnerships — A Framework

The Engaged Pedagogy Program is modeled after The Students as Learners and Teachers (SaLT) Program of the Teaching and Learning Institute (TLI) at Bryn Mawr College that implements pedagogical partnerships between students and educators to build mutual teaching and learning experiences. The Engaged Pedagogy Program is also informed by the late bell hooks' seminal teaching theory, engaged pedagogy, which offers a holistic and transformative approach to teaching and learning between students and educators. Engaged Pedagogy Partners will explore key facets of their educational identities and work together to practically create purpose and community, build expertise, and develop student-centered materials — new or revised — throughout the 13-week process.
