Profile

Daniel W. Stuckart is Interim Chair of the department of Middle and High School Education and Professor of Social Studies Education at Lehman College, the City University of New York (CUNY). In addition to co-coordinating the Social Studies Education Program, he also co-manages the undergraduate, secondary education minor and teacher certification pathway. Further, he is the Director of University Partnership Programs with the New York City Department of Education, one of the largest alternative certification programs in the United States.

His research interests include the intersection of technology, urban education, and democratic practices. He is author of Turning Pragmatism into Practice: A Vision for Social Studies Teachers (2018) and co-author of Revisiting Dewey: Best Practices for Educating the Whole Child Today (2010).

Professor Stuckart is a former social studies teacher from Tampa, Florida where he completed his doctorate at the University of South Florida. He is a member of the editorial board of Trends & Issues, the official publication of the Florida Council for the Social Studies (FCSS). He also serves as Treasurer and Executive Board Member of the New York State Association of Teacher Educators (NYSATE).
