Profile
Dr. Lizette Aguilar is a Bronx native, having lived a few blocks away from Lehman college when she was in elementary school. She has over 20 years of educational experience serving in school districts located in, or similar to, the Bronx neighborhoods where she was raised.
She began her career teaching Middle School English and Social Studies in Newark, NJ, and then went on to teach in The Bronx, East Harlem and West Harlem. During her time as a school-based educator she served in many teacher leader and educational leadership roles including Lead Teacher, Professional Development Committee Chair, New Teacher and Pre-service Teacher Mentor and as an Assistant Principal and Principal. She believes schools are spaces in which all children deserve to thrive and shine!
Prof. Aguilar received her doctorate in Urban Education at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research interests are in student and teacher identity, pedagogy, literacy, education history and school building leadership practices.
