Profile

Dr. Rabab Abi-Hanna is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Middle and High School Education Department at Lehman College, CUNY. She serves as co-coordinator and an adviser for the Graduate Program in Middle and Secondary Mathematics Education. She completed her doctorate in mathematics education at Montclair State University, New Jersey.

Dr. Abi-Hanna has actively collaborated in self-study research and focuses on exploring the relationships between teaching practices and learning mathematics. She is also interested in exploring the effects of technology on student learning and its impact on their ability to connect mental structures and build deeper understanding of mathematical content. Dr. Abi-Hanna has published in conference proceedings and professional journals including Mathematics Teacher, and Gender, Feminism, and Queer Theory in the Self-Study of Teacher Education Practices. She has presented papers at conferences nationally and internationally, including the Castle Conference in Herstmonceux, England and the Northeastern Educational Research Association (NERA) Conference. Most recently, she presented Understanding Students’ Mental Constructs through their Voices at the Conference on Academic Research in Education (CARE) at the University of Nevada. Additionally, Dr. Abi-Hanna is a reviewer for Common Grounds Publications, The Educational Forum, Journal for Multicultural Education, and Mathematics Teacher Educator.

Prior to becoming a faculty member, Dr. Abi-Hanna was a high school teacher and a mathematics consultant.
