Biography

Dante Albertie is the founder and director of Lehman Stages, the professional performance and rehearsal facilities at Lehman College, the City University of New York. Lehman Stages serves 70,000 people annually through its rental operations, production services and artistic programming.  Prior to his work at Lehman College, Mr. Albertie was the artistic director and co-founder of the (“much-loved” – NY Times) Belmont Playhouse in the Bronx. Numerous directing credits at the Belmont include A Stone Carver by William Mastrosimone (NYC premiere), the world premiere productions of Little Victories by Stephanie Stowe, Over The River And Through The Woods by Joe DePietro, Behind The Counter With Mussolini by Martin Greco (Cable Ace Award /Off-Broadway run), and In-Betweens by Bryan Goluboff which moved Off-Broadway to the Cherry Lane Theater. Prior to the creation of the Belmont Playhouse, Mr. Albertie was the administrative director at Theater for the New City in New York.

As a freelance theatre director, Mr. Albertie has worked with UbU Rep, E.S.T, Cherry Lane Alternative, Theater for the New City, Seven Angels Theatre, Henry Street Settlement, Naked Angels Theater Company (Shyster, starring Fisher Stevens, Annabella Sciorra and Phyllis Newman), and the world premiere of Yardbird by Stephanie Stowe, with Chris Cole, Lisa Sheridan and Marilyn Sokol for the Bronx Stage & Film Company at the Bank Street Theatre. Mr. Albertie has served as a panelist for the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Bronx Council on the Arts (BRIO Awards) among others. Mr. Albertie was honored for his dedication to the cultural life of the Bronx by the Bronx Arts Ensemble and The Bronx Chamber of Commerce.
