“¡Que se escuche el grito para todos los graduados!” (“Let’s hear it for the graduates!”) said Peso Pluma as he opened his remarks from the podium at CUNY’s inaugural Mexican-American Graduation Ceremony, held on May 2 at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts.

The event, organized by the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute in collaboration with  Professor Lizbeth de la Cruz Santana, marked a historic first, celebrating both academic achievement and Mexican-American heritage.

“No saben lo que representan para la comunidad mexicana, para la comunidad latina…” (“You don’t know what you represent for the Mexican community, for the Latino community…) said Peso Pluma, praising the graduates’ hard-earned achievement and the journey behind it. The Class of 2026 crossed the stage with their families, sharing a moment of pride, connection, and joy.

Congratulations to the 2026 Mexican-American graduates—here’s to your Nueva Vida ahead, full of purpose, possibility and promise.
