Morning Edition Features Lehman Professor's Fitness Insights

January 6, 2026

National Public Radio’s "Morning Edition" has been showcasing the research of Brad Schoenfeld, Lehman Professor of Exercise Science, first in a New Year’s Day segment on how to set—and keep—strength training goals in 2026, and then in a piece that aired  January 5, exploring how much gym time is necessary to see results.

Speaking with health journalist Will Stone, Schoenfeld makes the case that it’s never too late to begin lifting weights, and two 45-minute sessions a week are enough make gains. Even people who establish a routine when they’re well above age 70 can improve their health and longevity, he said.
