Fifty Lehman College students traveled to Washington last week to take part in the eighth annual Dominicans on the Hill conference, “Advancing Public Policy and Opportunities in Health.”

Telemundo highlighted the students’ experience in a comprehensive segment on the conference.

Dominicans on the Hill (DOTH) is a national platform dedicated to elevating the voices, achievements, and contributions of Dominican Americans. It convenes leaders and professionals to advance research, advocacy, policy, and education while strengthening ties between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic.

Associate Professor of Management at Business Innovation Alexander Núñez-Torres, who accompanied the group, said on LinkedIn that “experiences like this matter. When students engage in national policy conversations and walk the halls of the U.S. Capitol, they see what leadership looks like and where they belong.”

“I am proud of our students for representing Lehman with professionalism and purpose,” he added. “When students are in the room, the future is in the room.”

Along with Núñez-Torres, faculty members Andy Gold and James F. Smith, and administrators Yini Rodriguez and Anyelina Fermin also attended.

Núñez-Torres and Lehman alumna Cristina Contreras, CEO of NYC Health+Hospitals/Lincoln, introduced one of the conference segments,  “Health, Education & the Future.”

Lehman alumna Celinés Toribio, ambassador and vice minister for Dominican Communities Abroad, was also featured at the event.
