This month Frontiers in Sociology published research by Lehman students, sponsored by the CUNY Institute for Health Equity and under the guidance of Associate Professor Maria-Isabel Roldós, highlighting the unique challenges and motivations of STEM undergrads from diverse backgrounds. Through interviews, researchers found that family support, mentorship, and authentic representation play key roles in student success, while overcoming stereotypes and improving time management are vital for supporting these students.

Last spring, the researchers presented their work at the 2025 Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators Conference in Chicago.
