Adjunct Teacher of the Year Michael Gulino—a Lehman alumnus—co-directs programs in Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences and teaches a range of courses on health education, mental wellness, and community health. With over 20 years at Lehman, he is a seasoned administrator, a committed educator—and, for his students, a true coach.

“When I began teaching 48 years ago, I aimed to help students realize the best version of themselves, and help create opportunities for their advancement, whatever that might be,” he said.

Gulino is nationally recognized for his contributions to athletic administration and has chaired key initiatives for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, including courses on emergency management and student-athlete mental health. Outside of Lehman, he continues to support schools in Westchester and Rockland counties through professional development focused on leadership, curriculum, and cultural change.

"I know that a big part of winning this award is receiving recommendation letters from former and present students and colleagues,” he said, “so I am humbled to think I was selected for this award amongst the outstanding adjunct faculty at Lehman.”

Gulino earned his B.S. in physical education from Manhattan College, his master’s degree in physical education in applied physiology from Columbia Teachers College, his MSEd in health education and promotion from Lehman, and an advanced certificate in district-level school administration from Long Island University.
