Lehman College School of Business faculty members Assistant Professor Di Wu and Clinical Professor Andrew Gold each received a CUNY Open Educational Resources (OER) grant to redesign key courses and expand access to high-quality, cost-free learning materials for students. The CUNY OER Award supports faculty in developing and adopting free, openly licensed course materials to reduce costs and improve student access across the university system.

Assistant Professor Wu received a $10,000 award to create an open-licensed repository of case studies for the Management Decision Making course. The case studies, developed collaboratively by students and instructors, focus on real business problems and teach students how to use tools like spreadsheets and visualization software to make data-driven decisions. Wu explained that the goal is “to create a dynamic learning resource that lets students work with real data and modern tools to make informed business decisions.” He added that involving students in the process helps create “a more engaging and relevant learning experience.”

Professor Gold’s award of $2,000 will convert his Foundations of Entrepreneurship course into a fully OER-based Brightspace course. Gold noted, “This project replaces costly textbooks with open educational resources and encourages the creation of new materials to improve student access and innovate pedagogy.” The initiative will also help maintain consistency across the entrepreneurship program and provide incentives for faculty adoption. “Any future faculty adopting my curriculum will receive a $500 stipend,” said Gold.

These projects are part of the School of Business’s ongoing efforts, as the only public business college in The Bronx or Westchester, to make learning more accessible while providing hands-on, real-world experiences for students.
