Olivia Loksing Moy, associate professor of English, recently interviewed Africana Studies scholar Mary Frances Phillips for CUNY's Indoor Voices podcast. Phillips's new book, Black Panther Woman: The Political and Spiritual Life of Ericka Huggins, delves deep into issues ranging from strategies of political and personal resistance, to the history of women in the Black Panthers, to the challenges of biographical writing and innovative approaches to the practice.
Phillips taught in Lehman's Department of Africana Studies for 12 years; she since been appointed to the African American Studies faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
