Limor Pinhasi-Vittorio, professor and department chair of Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education, spoke to education news outlet The 74 about the decline of literacy among adults and the way new technologies are reshaping people's engagement with information. Increasing numbers of high school graduates lack skills in close reading and critical questioning—once considered central to literacy.

“When you talk about literacy, what are we talking about?," she said. "Is it reading, writing, filling out forms? Or really understanding and critically questioning what it is we’re consuming?”
