Lehman’s Sarah Ohmer (Africana Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Women's and Gender Studies) and Dialika Sall (Sociology) joined the Institute for Citizens & Scholars’ career-building retreat in Minneapolis in August, a faculty-focused event that fosters dialogue, professional growth, and leadership. Ohmer was invited to serve as a faculty mentor, supporting scholars like Sall, who was named a Mellon Emerging Faculty Leader in July.

“At a time when Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies are under threat, and immigrant, Black and Brown, and queer communities are under attack, it was energizing and life-giving to hear and offer feedback on the scholarship of a diverse group of up-and-coming scholars,” said Ohmer. Sall added, “The Mellon Emerging Faculty Leader award has provided crucial research support for me at a pivotal-stage of my tenure-track journey and the career enhancement retreat was an invaluable opportunity for early-career scholars across disciplines to be in community and learn from one another.”

During the current academic year, Ohmer will continue her commitment to mentorship in the program; Sall is currently on a Fulbright fellowship in Senegal, conducting research for her second book.
