Diana Higuera-Cortés (Languages and Literatures) is one of CUNY’s 2025 Adjunct Incubator awardees. The award supports the pedagogy work of adjuncts teaching across CUNY.
The award will help Higuera-Cortés, who teaches Spanish, develop La Loteria Niuyorkina, a linguistic teaching tool.
“La Loteria Niuyorkina is a pedagogical game/toolkit focused on the varieties of Spanish spoken across the landscape of New York City," said Higuera-Cortés. "The project will engage students from Lehman College and Queens College in the study of the public spaces they navigate every day, and explore common Spanglish words and expressions that shape their identity.”
Higuera-Cortés is a doctoral candidate in the CUNY Graduate Center's Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Cultures program, and a former Humanities Alliance fellow.
Since 2019, the CUNY Adjunct Incubator has honored and encouraged the scholarly and creative work of CUNY’s adjunct faculty. Many, like Higuera-Cortés, are students at the Graduate Center.
