After a nationwide search, Lehman College Provost for Academic Affairs and Student Success Jorge Silva-Puras announced that Karin Beck, who has served as Interim Associate Provost since March 2024, has been appointed to a permanent position.

"I congratulate Karin as she continues her dedicated service and exemplary leadership at Lehman," Silva-Puras said.

As Interim Associate Provost, Beck played a central role in the daily operations of the Office of the Provost, with responsibilities including academic policy, strategic and enrollment planning, accreditation and assessment processes, general education programs, and the development and implementation of new academic initiatives.

She also oversaw Lehman’s General Education programs, as well as the College Honors and Student Success initiatives, including Lehman Honors, the Macaulay Honors College program, and the Office of Prestigious Awards.

"During the year as Interim, I have enjoyed the cooperation with our great faculty and with the other divisions at the college," said Beck. "My main goal as Associate Provost is to continue to foster a culture of collaboration and mutual support in the service of our students."

From 2018-2024, Beck was Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, which she successfully guided through significant academic and operational development. Her previous leadership positions include Associate Dean and Executive Director of General Studies at Kean University, and Director of the College at Leuphana University in Germany—demonstrating an extensive and impressive international career in higher education leadership.

Beck earned her Ph.D. in Slavic Literatures from Columbia University, holds degrees from Freie Universität Berlin, and has studied extensively at prominent institutions in Russia and the Czech Republic. An accomplished scholar, she has taught courses ranging from humanities to literature and languages, contributed significantly to general education curricula, and published scholarly work on literary studies and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
