Benjamin Holtzman's lauded 2021 study The Long Crisis: New York and the Path to Neoliberalism is getting renewed attention at a time when the roles and responsibilities of the City's public offices and private entities are being contested at the ballot box. In a Soundscapes NYC podcast that just dropped, the assistant professor of history spoke to host and historian Ryan Purcell about New York City's fiscal crisis of 1975 and its aftermath—both of which continue to shape the physical, cultural, and social landscape of the City 50 years later.

Along the way, they comment on popular songs of the era, including "The Message" by Hip Hop legend, Bronx native, and Lehman honoree Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five.
