As part of an ongoing partnership through the NYC Climate Justice Hub, members of Lehman College's geographic information science (GISc) program joined community leaders and youth activists at the second annual Youth-Led Symposium on Environmental & Housing Justice, hosted by Nos Quedamos in the South Bronx. The event brought together multiple groups working to advance climate and housing justice, with Lehman contributing research expertise to support the organization's efforts.

Elia Machado, professor of Earth, Environmental, and Geospatial Sciences, and Paola Delgado Sanchez, a research assistant and master's student in GISc,  along with Nos Quedamos advocate John Sánchez and City College professor John Krinski presented “NQ’s Youth Curriculum: Using StoryMaps for Advocacy.” The project aims to help young people in the Melrose community use digital mapping and storytelling to preserve their neighborhood’s history and advocate for change. Lehman’s involvement highlighted the role GISc technologies can play in building tools for community-driven justice.

The NYC Climate Justice Hub is a joint initiative of CUNY and the  NYC Environmental Justice Alliance.
