Your Next Physical Therapist Could Be a Lehman Alumn
Data doesn’t lie: Lehman undergraduates have an eighty-three percent success rate when applying to doctoral programs in physical therapy (DPT).
Over the past two years, 35 students out of 41 exercise science majors applied and were accepted to DPT programs. Students in other majors were also successful.
“With this acceptance rate, Lehman’s program ranks far above most institutions in the region in preparing students for advanced study and career training in the field,” said Scott Calvin, pre-health advisor at Lehman.
There are about 225 DPT programs nationally, a relatively small number, and they receive over 110,000 applications every year, according to Professor Gul Tiryaki Sonmez, chair of the Department of Exercise Science and Recreation.
“DPT programs are highly competitive, with acceptance rates averaging around ten percent,” she said. “The success of our faculty, pre-health advisors— and of course, our students—demonstrates the quality of the curriculum and advising we offer at Lehman.”
