LEHMAN COLLEGE PROVOST PETER NWOSU NAMED NEW PRESIDENT OF SUNY OSWEGO
Oversaw Accreditation, New School of Business, Student Success, Diversified Faculty
(The Bronx, NY) -- With a record of accomplishments in diversifying the academic offerings at Lehman College as well as the faculty and administration, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success, Peter Nwosu, will now take his talents to SUNY Oswego as their new President.
“It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we say goodbye to Provost Nwosu,” said Lehman College President Fernando Delgado. “His academic stewardship of the college over the past few years was a source of stability and growth, particularly as we all grappled with the Covid pandemic. We know the SUNY Oswego community will benefit greatly from Peter’s depth of experience.”
Provost Nwosu joined Lehman in the spring of 2019 and led the College through a successful reaffirmation of accreditation; establishing a six-step assessment tool and program review that helped guide the college through the rigorous and extensive process.
His efforts in curriculum renewal helped add three new departments to the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing, increased the number of online degree programs from five to 29, and resulted in the creation of the College’s new School of Business.
In the area of student success, even with the pandemic impacting the personal lives of so many students, Provost Nwosu has continued to lead efforts aimed at improving retention and graduation rates. In addition, the emergence from COVID has also led to a deeper focus on student support and recovery from learning loss that impacted so many K-12 and post-secondary students during COVID.
Classified as a Minority-Serving and Hispanic-Serving Institution, Provost Nwosu was intentional about building a faculty and administration at Lehman that reflected the diversity of the student body and showed current and prospective students a path to success with role models aligned with their lived experiences.
Provost Nwosu will remain at Lehman until August 14. President Delgado is working on an interim plan with an eye toward a national search to secure the college’s next Provost.
