Interim Dean MacKillop Named 2017’s Outstanding Continuing Educator by CEANY
The Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) has selected Jane MacKillop, the interim dean of the Lehman College School of Continuing and Professional Studies, for its prestigious Outstanding Continuing Educator Award for 2017. The award is the highest recognition the organization gives to Continuing Education professionals.
“She has had a true impact on your area of the state, the region, and nationally,” wrote Lisa Rapose, the CEANY awards and resolutions committee chair, in the award letter. “It is clear that she understands continuing education and its values.”
MacKillop came to Lehman in September 2016 after an impressive career that included 11 years as associate dean of Continuing Education at LaGuardia Community College, and previous stints at Purchase College, SUNY, and City College. At LaGuardia, she was responsible for both grant-funded and tuition-based youth, corrections, and pre-college programs. The programs focused on professional development and developing basic skills.
She began her long and distinguished CUNY career as founding director of the Adult Learning Center at Lehman College in 1987 and was acting dean of the Center for Worker Education.
“Returning to Lehman has been one of the highlights of my professional career and receiving this award from my continuing education association (CEANY) colleagues, is a tremendous honor,” said MacKillop. “I’ve worked with so many great people at Lehman and throughout the CUNY system. I’ve been fortunate to have had some great mentors and it’s those relationships and partnerships that make it possible to achieve success and makes continuing education such a vital part of the higher education system.”
