Please join us for Part 1 of the Second Annual Symposium on Healthy Aging: Nutrition and the Life Course, hosted by the Lehman College Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences (HPNS) and the CUNY Institute for Health Equity (CIHE). The event will be held virtually on December 3, 2025.

The focus of this year’s Symposium on Healthy Aging is Nutrition and the Life Course.  Scholars, community-based practitioners, educators and professionals from a wide range of disciplines  will gather to share ideas and forge new collaborations.

Congregate meals in older adult centers in the Bronx: It’s not just food!

Evelyn Laureano, PhD, LMSW, has 50 years of community-based practice with older adults in the Bronx and beyond.

The BMI Paradox: Challenging ageism

Kate Burt, PhD, RD, Associate Professor, Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences, is a scholar of national reputation whose work has made important contributions to promoting food justice and health equity.

Joining forces to explore healthy aging through the lens of community-based practice and research, Dr. Burt and Dr. Laureano contextualize assumptions about diet and advanced age. They offer alternative narratives about food and nutrition that center the voices and experiences of older adults.
