Dr. Sarah Soanirina Ohmer is a literary critic and Afro-Latin American studies scholar, fluent in French, Spanish, Portuguese and English. Her work focuses on Afro-Latin American Literature in Brazil, Cuba, the US, and Colombia, and in pedagogy--multilingual learners, alternative assessment, anti-racist pedagogy. Her first book, The Keloids We Heal: Trauma, Spirituality, and Black Modernity in Literature, traces the impact of colonization and enslavement on Black women and Black women’s contributions to colonial, nineteenth, and twentieth century literature in the US, Brazil, and the Caribbean.
