Ciara Guzman: SUNY Upstate Medical University: Class of 2025

For Ciara Guzman, a first-generation Dominican American who was raised in Washington Heights, the road to a career in medicine was paved by two things: her interest in the human body and a deep concern about the persistent health disparities and inadequate healthcare many minority communities face. As a Lehman undergrad, Ciara honed her leadership skills by joining the student government and spent several years working as a medical scribe. Both served her well: After graduating Lehman in 2019 with bachelor's degrees in biology and business administration, she was accepted to SUNY Upstate Medical University.
