About Clinical Practice
The Office of Clinical Practice & Partnerships (CPP) offers leadership and support to our aspiring teachers as they navigate PreK – 12 classroom experiences in schools. Experiences are aligned with program, content, and grade specific coursework to assure completion of New York State Teacher Certification (NYSED) requirements.
Clinical Practice = While pursuing undergraduate or master’s degrees, students in education courses require in-classroom clinical practice experiences, including fieldwork, student teaching or full-time teaching aligned with instruction, guidance and evaluations from Lehman College faculty and instructors. The Office of Clinical Practice & Partnerships answers all clinical practice question and offers valuable guidance to Lehman education students during Zoom and in-person office hours – from fingerprinting to student teaching to career day and much more. Our Educational Technology team provides video pedagogy workshops aimed to improve self-reflection, as well as other educational technology workshops that increase the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. We also partner with the Career Exploration and Development Center for resume and cover letter writing.
Partnerships = The School of Education works primarily with local Bronx schools, placing students in fieldwork and student teaching experiences, supporting nearby school districts and communities. However, our School of Education students have been engaged in more than 200 PreK – 12 schools in and around New York City. With the support of principals, assistant principals, school personnel and the mentorship of our brilliant Cooperating Teachers, students in the School of Education participate in a 14-week capstone clinical practice student teaching or full-time teaching (Intern) semester. Through clinical practice experiences in partner schools, our students become effective, reflective educators and pursue NYSED Teacher Certification. Our Lehman College: School of Education graduates and alumni are in high demand to fill teaching positions, so we provide an internal digital job board for PreK – 12 schools to post jobs and we “push” notifications to students.
