Most students are required to gain departmental permission approval to register for a language course. Before making an appointment read the exceptions, detailed below.
No advising/permission approvals/e-permits are done via email, phone, or walk-ins (unless "walk-in or virtual drop-in" dates and times are provided).
Appointments should be booked on the Navigate Website or the "Navigate Student" Mobile App.
Download the “Navigate Student” app in the App Store or Google Play Store.
Exceptions:
Students currently or have taken a 111 or 113-level course. (This applies to current Lehman students only):
-
Students moving from 111 language courses to 112 courses and 113 language courses to 114 courses do not need an appointment or permission before enrolling in their Spring 2025 classes. If you are in a 111 course, you can enroll in 112 of the same language. If you are in SPA 113 you can enroll in SPA 114.
- If you've already been granted permission, and it's not working, Please cancel your appointment (if you've made one) and email us at Languages.Literatures@lehman.cuny.edu with your full name, EMPLID#, the semester you want to enroll in (Winter or Spring) and the language course you are currently taking or have already taken.
- Example: "My name is Jane Smith, my emplid is 12345678. I have taken SPA 111 at Lehman and need approval for SPA 112 for Spring 2025 I tried to enroll and it says I need departmental approval"
- If you've previously completed a language course at Lehman before Fall 2024, email us at Languages.Literatures@lehman.cuny.edu for permission.
- If you are a Transfer Student, you need to make an appointment.
Permissions for Japanese, Chinese and Arabic Courses:
-
Asako.Tochika@lehman.cuny.edu will handle permission/advisement for Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic courses. This includes students who want to e-permit a class in those languages.
-
Students currently enrolled in Japanese will receive permission from their professor.
