Victory never felt so sweet. The Lehman Lightning baseball team isn't just celebrating a hard-fought win—they're making national headlines. After snapping their 42-game winless streak with a nail-biting come-from-behind win over Yeshiva University's Maccabees in the first game of a Tuesday, April 8 double-header, the team has become the talk of the college baseball world—featured in dozens of national, international, regional, and local news outlets, including an appearance on NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America, and a segment on CBS Saturday Morning.
Until Tuesday, the Lightning hadn't won a game since May 2023, when Coach Christoper Delgado was a Lehman student himself. Yeshiva's 99-game losing streak stretched back to 2022. With combined losses of 141 games, both teams were an object lesson in heart and determination. That determination became a major trending topic on social media from TikTok and Instagram to Reddit, then caught the attention of ESPN Sports Center, MLB, NBC and Canadian radio, as well as local stations and newspapers like 1010 WINS, WABC, NY1, and the New York Post.
The second game of the afternoon provided some welcome relief to the Maccabees, with a 9-5 win over Lehman. This unprecedented doubleheader not only marked a turning point for both baseball programs but also resonated far beyond the sports world. With both teams now primed for a turnaround, this might just be the sweetest "win-win" in college baseball history.
