Description
Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the Gilman Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students with financial need to study or intern abroad. Students pursuing critical need languages may be eligible for an additional $3,000. The scholarship aims to expand access to study abroad for students traditionally underrepresented in international education.
Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Current recipient of a Federal Pell Grant
- Applying to or accepted into a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program
- Program must take place in a country with a Level 1 or Level 2 Travel Advisory (Level 3 with approved petition)
Deadlines
Applications are accepted twice yearly in March and October (exact dates vary by cycle).

Funded by the Freeman Foundation, the Freeman-ASIA Scholarship provides financial support of $3,000 to $7,000 for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Eligibility

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers fully-funded, intensive summer language instruction and cultural immersion for U.S. students in 13 critical languages. Description
The IPCE Global Scholars Award provides $1,000 to support Lehman College undergraduate students participating in approved exchange and partner study abroad programs. Offered through the Office of International Programs and Community Engagement (IPCE), the award aims to make international experiences more accessible for students who demonstrate a commitment to global learning and community engagement.
Eligibility
- Must be a matriculated undergraduate student at Lehman College
- Minimum GPA of 2.7
- Accepted into a Lehman-approved exchange or partner program
- Funds must be used within the academic year of application (summer, fall, winter, or spring)
Application Requirements
- Completed application submitted to the IPCE Office by November 24
- Personal statement (prompt provided in application)
- Participation in one IPCE Global Program event
- Participation in one community engagement activity
- Final approval by the Lehman College Scholarship Office
Award Disbursement
Funds are released after student eligibility is verified by the Scholarship Office. Recipients must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing and complete their approved program.
