Join us for a special exploration of global peacebuilding, women's leadership, and human rights through Through Her Lens, a compelling United Nations exhibition that highlights the contributions of women working to advance peace, security, and justice around the world.
The program will begin with remarks from college leadership, followed by a historical reflection on Lehman College's unique connection to the United Nations and the early development of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Participants will learn about the exhibition's origins and the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda before taking part in a guided exhibition tour led by Silmara Roman that explores the experiences and achievements of women serving across the UN system.
The event will also feature a panel discussion bringing together Ruth Aluoch (UN Political/Gender Affairs officer in DPPA-DPO Gender unit) and Dr. Bertrade Ngo-Ngijol Banoum (Lehman Associate Professor, Africana Studies Women's and Gender Studies) to examine how global peacebuilding efforts relate to local action in the Bronx. Through an engaging dialogue and audience Q&A, participants will explore themes of human rights, representation, leadership, and community engagement.
