Winner of the National Prize for Arts and Sciences, the highest honor the Mexican Government awards for intellectual achievement, Carlos Marichal is globally known for his work on Latin American economic history. He has published numerous books on international relations, colonial history, and financial history. His book A Century of Debt Crises in Latin America: From Independence to the Great Depression, 1820-1930 published by Princeton University Press remains the most cited reference work on the history of Latin American external debt.
Political Economy Conversations focus on relevant topics in theory, history, practice, and teaching of political economy. Hosted by the Department of Political Science and the School of Natural and Social Sciences, the series fosters a conversation with global leaders and scholars on capitalism, development, and globalization through political economy lenses.
