We are pleased to invite you to an in-person workshop, “The Double-Edged Sword of Code Switching: Cultural Agency, Honoring Complexity, and Building Brave Spaces,” hosted by a dynamic panel of four faculty members from Lehman’s Department of Social Work.

Code switching can be both a powerful strategy and a heavy burden—used to connect, to protect, and to survive. At Lehman, students, staff, and faculty constantly make choices about how to show up, often navigating shifting expectations tied to power, identity, and belonging. In this dialogue, we will explore the intentionality behind those shifts and the impact they have on our sense of self. Together, we will explore the complexity and the tension between fitting in and standing fully in who we are. Centering cultural agency, we will imagine brave spaces that affirm authenticity, build community, and empower us to move through Lehman with pride and purpose.
