Biography

Elizabeth Kim

Elisabeth (Betsy) Kim is an Associate Professor of Organizational Leadership at Lehman College. She is the coordinator of the Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership (EDOL). Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Education and Leadership at California State University, Monterey Bay where she also coordinated the Master of Arts in Education program. She holds a PhD in Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Kim’s research uses a mixed-methods approach to explore the links between education policy and educational equity, with a particular focus on how contemporary policies moderate or exacerbate inequities for low-income students of color. Her research interests include culturally responsive education and leadership, bilingual education policy and equitable access to postsecondary education. Her work can be found in the Review of Educational Research, Leadership & Policy in Schools, Educational Management Administration & Leadership and Teachers College Press. She is co-editor of a volume entitled Equity Doesn’t Just Happen: Stories of Education Leaders Working Toward Social Justice published by Rowman & Littlefield. In addition, she taught first grade at PS 161 in Harlem as part of the New York City Teaching Fellows program and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic where she focused her work in the areas of youth development and education.
