To enroll in MAT 172: Precalculus, students must meet the following prerequisite requirements:
- → Lehman Coursework: You must have received a grade of C (or better) in MAT 104: College Algebra.
- → Transfer Coursework: If you completed a comparable course at another institution, you must consult with a Department Mathematics Adviser for approval.
If you are planning to take MAT 175: Calculus I after completing Precalculus, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
- → Grade Requirement: You must receive a grade of C or better in MAT 172 to move on to Calculus I.
- → Department Recommendation: We strongly recommend that students strive to fully master the material presented in MAT 172, as a strong foundation is critical for success in Calculus.
The following textbook and software access are required for MAT 172:
- → Textbook: Precalculus by Robert Blitzer (Current Edition).
- → Software Requirement: Students MUST have access to the accompanying online homework software, MyLab.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: All students must take and pass the Department uniform final exam in order to pass the course.
This exam is administered during finals week at the end of the semester.
