Learn how to support the well-being of individuals, families and communities with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level, generalist social work practice in urban social service agencies and organizations, as well as graduate social work education.

58 credit Social Work Major with a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T) Certificate

During their second year in the Social Work program, students complete 15 hours of practicum each week in a social services agency or school. Students are matched with a specific setting based on their interest, experience, location, and the needs of the agency/school. Some areas of practice in which students may be matched are:  

  • Schools
  • Community health
  • Housing
  • Substance use disorder
  • Working with older adults
  • Mental health clinics such as Lehman’s Bronx Telehealth Counseling Center 

Some courses are offered in a hybrid format – allowing for both online and in person learning. Evening and weekend courses are also available. 

This program offers a Dual-Language English Spanish Practicum Seminar Class, preparing students who wish to work with Spanish-speaking communities. 

Career + Advanced Degree Opportunities

BASW graduates are prepared for a wide variety of careers such as case managers, advocates, housing coordinators, family support staff, and other social service roles.

B.A. Social Work graduates interested in pursuing an M.S.W. degree are eligible to apply for "advanced standing" status at any accredited graduate program for one year and take the ASWB exam to become Licensed Social Workers (LMSW)
