Access to the Arts

Lehman College, CUNY students are entitled to free admission to over fifty museums and galleries in New York. Many of them are listed here on the website for CUNY Arts, an initiative founded to create opportunities for all students to experience the richness of New York City’s arts and cultural institutions. As the wesbite says, "CUNY recognizes that exposure to the arts improves students’ critical thinking skills, broadening their ability to think strategically, while acknowledging the absence of the arts in most of higher education. Our mission is to expose CUNY students to the wonders of the arts in NYC." For a list of museums and galleries that have free admission for CUNY students, see the CUNY Arts website.

Not all museums and galleries have free admission for CUNY students, and many theatre, music, dance, and film venues in New York only have reduced admission costs for CUNY students. A Lehman education gives students access to the arts when faculty take their classes on field trips to art museums and galleries, musical and dance performances, and plays on and off Broadway in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and beyond. Students who encounter new art forms and venues in college gain a lifetime of access to the arts.
