Lehman Associate Professor of Psychology Steven Holochwost recently spoke to WHYY.org about the positive impact that learning to play a musical instrument has on executive function development. As co-director of the REACH lab at West Chester University, he has been studying Play on Philly, a free music education program for Philadelphia children that was profiled by the media outlet.

Findings from the research, which began in 2014, show that children in the program outperform their peers on executive function tests.
