Mariposa Fernández, a lecturer in Africana Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies at Lehman College, was recently featured on the Academy of American Poets' daily podcast, Poem-a-Day, with her poem Verses in the Wind.

An award-winning poet, Fernández’s work has been taught at colleges and universities across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and internationally. Her poetry has been included in major anthologies such as African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song and the Norton Anthology of Latino Literature. In 2021, she was awarded the prestigious Letras Boricuas-Mellon Fellowship.
