DASNY President Rodriguez Joins Lehman College President Delgado to Tour Campus
President and CEO of New York State’s Dormitory Authority (DASNY) Robert J. Rodriguez joined Lehman President Dr. Fernando Delgado on Monday, Nov. 4 to tour the campus and see in-person the numerous improvements and construction projects managed by DASNY that are elevating teaching, learning, and research opportunities and transforming the college.
Highlights of the tour included the Nursing Education, Research, and Practice Center, a significant project for the College that opened in February 2024; the Davis Building’s renovated Department of Social Work, which is nearing completion; and Science Hall.
"DASNY is proud to have partnered with CUNY for nearly 60 years on projects that enhance the educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds, President Rodriguez said. "Lehman College is a critically important Bronx institution, and DASNY is honored to have worked with them on this important project to train health care professionals at a time when New York needs their service, among many others."
The Lehman College Nursing Education, Research and Practice Center is a $95 million, 52,000-square-foot building that houses classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, faculty offices, and support spaces for both undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department of Nursing. A solar photovoltaic power generation system has been installed on the roof that generate a total of 43.2 kW of power for the building. New York State funded the project through The City University of New York Capital Improvement Program, with additional funding from the New York City Council and the Bronx Borough President’s Office.
Other buildings and sites visited include the Center for Teaching & Learning, located in the former pool of the Old Gym Building —a space that was the press pool when the United Nations held its historic first meetings on the Lehman campus—and the Music Building, both of which are under construction, as well as the plaza and trellis-covered walkway in front of the APEX athletic facility, which are nearing completion.
"Our partnership with DASNY has significantly enhanced our campus, allowing us to create spaces that foster learning and innovation while enriching our students’ educational experience," said President Delgado. "It’s important that when students come to our campus, they see buildings and spaces that are modern and new – giving them access to resources they’d only expect to see at private institutions."
