Using the Document Camera in C-126

The document camera is the center object of the three peripherals on the left of the PC. This is a neat machine; it can replace an overhead projector, a slide projector, a copier/scanner, the need to pass around a book, a picture, an object, text, for students to look at.  Look at the illustrations at the end of this page.

Please be considerate: TURN THE POWER OFF WHEN DONE -- on the left side of the base! Thanks!

  1. If the PC is off, turn it on.
  2. Turn the power of the document camera on: the power switch is on the left side of the base. If the power was left on by an earlier user, turn it off, WAIT AT LEAST 5 SECONDS, then turn it on again.
  3. On the Operation panel, at the front of the base, press the Auto Focus button in the center, and, at the far right, press Backlight for a slide, transparency, film -- or, next to it, the button for the Sidelights for text or a three-dimensional object.
  4. Center your three-dimensional object or image or document on the glasstop of the base, image or text up. Make sure that a document has clean print (no bad or fuzzy photocopies with coffee stains, please!) and that the font size is 12 or 14 or more.  For smaller print, you will have to zoom in and scroll a lot, both horizontally and vertically.
  5. On the keyboard, press NumLock twice (the NumLock key is in the upper left corner of the keypad).
  6. At the bottom of the monitor, you should now see PC  PIP  TV  PIP2.
  7. Press right arrow or left arrow, then press Enter, to select the view mode you desire:
    1. PC  gets you the normal display on the monitor, without any input from the document camera.
    2. TV shows the input from the document camera on the full screen.
    3. PIP (Picture In Picture) gives you a small screen showing the input from the document camera.
  8. To focus on a particular point of a three-dimensional object, press either the near or far button (instead of Auto Focus).
  9. Use the Backlight for transparencies, slides, film. For negatives, press the NEGA button.
  10. For a B/W document, press the B/W button.
  11. To adjust brightness or picture quality, turn the Exposure or Detail knob.
  12. You can use the little white tablet to draw an arrow to point to a detail of the image on the screen.
  13. Use ComWeb to project what is on your screen to all others in the room: On the control panel, press Reset and 0, then press Add, press 1 to select Mode 1, to project instructor station screen to all students.
  14. FINALLY: When done, PLEASE turn off all the lamps on the front panel of the document camera, and then turn off its power, on the left.

In case the Document Camera is in storage position and covered when not in use:
1) Get ready to use it:
  1. Remove the cover.
  2. Unfold the pair of lamps so that one points to the left and the other points to the right.
  3. Then press the arm lock release lever to unfold the camera arm up to a nearly upright position and turn the camera head=lens holder until it points down to the center of the base.
2) Store when done:
  1. The power to the lamps and to the peripheral must be off. Do not touch the lamps: they will be hot.
  2. Direct the camera head sideways till it stops. Hold its arm with your right hand and with your left hand press the arm lock release lever. Then, very carefully, push the arm down to the document base.
  3. Fold the left lamp down and then the right lamp. Put the cover on top of the machine.
